Compare Plastic to Die Casting

Compare: Aluminum Die Casting Parts to Plastic Injection Molded Parts. Lately, plastic injection molded products have become very plentiful in the environment. More and more plastic products are being produced as a replacement for metal products such as faucets, door knobs, and chair braces. Die casting manufacturing industry is facing an opposing that produces products that do not disintegrate or rust. However, the question is, which is actually better, Die Casting Parts or Plastic Parts?

Durability

Die cast parts are essentially stronger compared to their plastic counterparts. In cases that a material is desired to be built thin and yet tough, die cast parts are desirable. Also, die casting parts can endure a wider range of temperature than their plastic counterparts, permitting them to be more ideal in severe working environments with dangerous temperatures.

Furthermore, since, die casting manufacturers use non ferrous type of metals like aluminum, zinc and magnesium, the quarrel that die cast parts are most probable to corrode easily lacking out of the picture.

Environmental Issue

When it comes to issues with environment, plastic products are not a good choice. If you wonder how long plastic products biodegrade, then the answer is: it takes at least few hundred years. This suggests that old and non-practical plastic products are going to flood the landfills. Likening these plastic products to die cast parts, the latter is really made of recycled material. About ninety five percent of metal utilized in die cast parts production is recycled from recovered parts. With this, metal is established to be a more maintainable material that could be used not only once but countless times over.

Plastic Strength or Castings

Metal alloy die castings have several advantages over their plastic counterparts. Most manufacturers of automobiles, computers, aircraft and other modern devices have considered the use of die cast metal alloy parts for their final products. Plastic component parts only entertain a few parts in some of these industries. But how do die castings compare to plastic parts? This article will try to answer this question.

A380 aluminum die casting alloy is the most common aluminum die casting alloy. It has a ultimate tensile strength of 317 MPa (46 ksi) Plastic is one the most common manufacturing materials that are utilized for various products. However, component parts that are fabricated from plastics are not as durable as the metal castings. Plastic has a tensile strength of 55-75 MPa (11 ksi) . If you are going to compare this to metal, particularly the cast aluminum, you will find out that plastic has great chances of incurring damages. Aside from this, plastic deteriorates rapidly when consistently exposed to heat. Plastic parts are only applicable for final products that do not require too much application of stress.

On the other hand, die cast metal parts are sturdier than plastics. Metal alloys are more resistant to harmful contaminants and extreme weather conditions. They can even bar the unwanted radio frequencies and electromagnetic emissions in some devices. Metal castings are also known to be good electrical conductors; meaning, they are ideal for housing electrical junctions because the metal surfaces can be easily grounded.

Die Casting Boxes

Enclosures for electronic components, sometimes called Enclosures or Housings or Boxes to protect the electronics from dust, moisture, water, impact, or RF These boxes are many times made from aluminum die castings. The die casting boxes usually have a cover or lid that is die casted also The die casting boxes are typically fitted to the cover with screws so that the cover seals out dust or water.

How Aluminum Auto Parts Are Made

Methods for making Aluminum Automotive Parts. Every single day, thousands of aluminum auto parts are made and produced by different auto companies: Chevrolet, Honda, Nissan, Toyota, and more. Many automotive parts are manufactured by net shape to save costs on additional labor and wasted materials. The metal aluminum is often used for car parts or auto parts for they are only a third of the weight of steel parts. Machining holes into the aluminum during production is easier. Indeed, aluminum proved to be the better metal compared to other metals because of its many beneficial properties.

To create aluminum automotive parts, the metal has to first undergo the die casting manufacturing process. First, the aluminum is being liquefied. The liquid metal will then be injected into the molds to take up the shape as dictated by the mold. Around 1,500 PSI to 30,000 PSI is applied, so that the liquid is forced into the mold perfectly. This will ensure accuracy in its dimensions. Afterwards, the molds are set aside to cool and once open, the aluminum automotive parts are perfectly finished.
