Why Should You Use Aluminum Speaker Parts?

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

Why Should You Use Aluminum Speaker Parts? According to Alon Wolf, the master craftsman of speakers, many speaker manufacturers commit the mistake of using medium-density fiberboard (MDF) for their speaker enclosures. He considers using anything other than aluminum for speaker parts a big no-no because aluminum is the most appropriate material for building speakers. The basic rule for a box is that it should be stiff and well-damped and have mass. Compared to aluminum, MDF may be well-damped but it is not very stiff. It is also neither hard nor heavy as it is made up of glue and resin. Additionally, when a driver is attached to an MDF box, the MDF ends up absorbing a lot of the energy or sound that the driver is releasing. As the driver puts out energy, the MDF box continues storing the sound, which keeps building up until listeners can hear the box flexing. In the end, the results are not particularly impressive and may even be annoying to the ear. Aluminum, on the other hand, passes with flying colors when it comes to building speaker parts as the material is well-damped, stiff, and heavy enough to give a speaker box the mass that it needs. Also, aluminum speaker parts do not limit the energy that a driver puts out. When a driver is joined to a well-damped aluminum enclosure, the sound that the speaker emits is in its purest form as the aluminum speaker parts allow the driver’s energy to come out freely. This results in listeners hearing things that they otherwise wouldn’t hear from an MDF box.

How are Aluminum Speaker Parts used?

Monday, September 20th, 2010

How are Aluminum Speaker Parts used? Aluminum has been widely used worldwide as a main raw material for electronics components such as speaker systems. This is because aluminum has a high capacity for electrical conductivity, making it an efficient metal for electrical purposes.

In the manufacture of speaker systems, aluminum has found application as the raw material for many speaker components. Aside from the high conductive capacity of aluminum, this material is also lightweight, making it possible for manufacturers to produce portable but powerful speakers. By its nature, aluminum is also a very malleable material, which is why it can be fashioned into different designs and styles for cutting-edge speaker systems.

Aluminum is used in several speaker parts, which include the basket or the speaker frame that holds everything together. Other important speaker parts that use aluminum are the woofers and tweeters. Woofers are used to reproduce the low notes, while tweeters are used to reproduce the high notes. Attached to the woofers and tweeters are the diaphragms, which can also be made of aluminum. This is the part that radiates and vibrates to produce the sound. The diaphragm for woofers is called speaker cones, while the diaphragm for tweeters are shaped like domes. Finally, even the dust cap, which is found at the center of the speaker and protects the speaker against dust and dirt, is often made of aluminum.

The advantages of Aluminum Audio Speaker Parts over plastic

Monday, April 26th, 2010

The advantages of Aluminum Audio Speaker Parts over plastic. If you are to match aluminum audio speaker parts against plastic audio speaker parts, which do you think is better?

First of all, the first thing that you will notice with the two materials is their weight. Plastic is known to be really light as compared to metals. On the other hand, aluminum is also extremely light for a metal. So in the end, both will get points when it comes to lightness.

Lightness is important for speakers since it is easy to move around. It is also light for car audio speakers.

Both are easily molded and do not need other processes like welding.

Plastic can be as strong as steel when incorporated with other materials like glass. However, aluminum is stronger than steel while being five times lighter.

Plastic can be made translucent and in different colors so your speaker can sport unique looks. Plastic does not corrode and will last forever. Aluminum does corrode but not as much as other metals. It is quite known for this special property of being resistant to rust.

Both would last forever and are not biodegradable. You can recycle them. But plastic is too difficult and too expensive to recycle. The advantages of Aluminum Speaker Parts over plastic is that it is commonly and easily recycled to produce good quality aluminum again.

Methods for making Aluminum Audio Speaker Parts

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Methods for making Aluminum Audio Speaker Parts. Aluminum is considered one of the major materials used for speaker parts. It is less likely to rust like other metals and is light weight like plastic. It also has good thermal properties, being able to withstand heat and loud music.

Aluminum is also a recyclable. Like aluminum soda cans, aluminum speaker parts can be sent to recycling plants or junk yards to help ease the waste load of cities. And unlike others, aluminum has a high percentage of recycled use – most of it is turned back into usable aluminum. There is less than 20% that is turned into a sooth-like substance. This can still be re-used by mixing it into concrete.

Aluminum, as compared to other metals, is easier to form and mold. Unlike steel and other metals, aluminum does not need to be welded.

So, what are the Methods for making Aluminum Speaker Parts?

It is actually quite easy. You just pre-heat and melt pure aluminum or an aluminum alloy and through die casting, you inject the aluminum (using high pressures) into the created metal mold. This is through using cold chambers. You can even die cast pipes, tubes and holes into the aluminum speaker parts. Afterwards, you can just buff the aluminum part and ready it for shipping.
